What is Counselling?

Welcome to Let's Talk Things Through, celebrating over 6 years serving Australians in the field of mental health and well-being located at 19 Elouera Street, Trevallyn, Tasmania, Australia. As owner and therapist, I understand the importance of mental and emotional well-being in leading a fulfilling life. Let's Talk Things Through is dedicated to providing exceptional counselling services to individuals seeking support and guidance in their personal journeys.

Let's Talk Things Through is committed to creating a warm and welcoming environment where clients can feel comfortable and supported throughout their therapeutic experiences. As a highly qualified and experienced counsellor, I am passionate about helping individuals navigate through life's challenges. I am also aware of the unfortunate stigma associated with mental health problems and visiting a counsellor. Online therapy provides a welcome way to overcome this, by having your sessions in the comfort of your home on your own computer or mobile. I offer a wide range of counselling services tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, or simply need someone to talk to, I am here to provide you with the support and tools necessary for personal growth and healing.

I believe in a holistic approach to mental health, and combine evidence-based therapies with compassion, empathy, and understanding to create a safe space for clients to explore their emotions and work towards positive change. I prioritize building strong therapeutic relationships, ensuring that each client feels heard, validated, and empowered throughout their counselling journey.

Here at Let's Talk Things Through, I have a simple philosophy, let the client talk about their problems, feelings and what has been tried in the past, then try and help them to develop strategies to cope better moving forward. As a counsellor I am not here to fix a client's problem, which may be something outside anybody's control, but I am here to assist the client in how to deal with their issues in a more controlled way, and less debilitating to the individual and their families.

I am here to offer advice or help with strategies that may help the client in the future, NOT to tell the client what to do. The client might use this advice or not, they may adapt the advice to suit themselves, but ultimately, clients get out of counselling what they want. All clients are unique individuals and are treated with the greatest respect, empathy, compassion and secrecy.

When people have problems there are a few ways they deal with them. They can bottle everything up and let the issue eat away at them until they explode, they can find ways to cope with or without success, or they can seek help. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness, it's actually a sign of strength. I view seeking help as a four-step process.

Step 1 is to admit they have a problem.

Step 2 is to admit they are not coping and need help.

Step 3 is to actively seek help.

Step 4 is attending counselling.

A problem cannot be solved if it is ignored.

Its okay to not be okay, but it is good to talk.

Why choose Lets Talk Things Through?

At Lets Talk Things Through, clients are treated with respect, compassion, and decency. Whatever is discussed within the confines of the office. All clients and their problems are totally unique, no two issues are exactly the same and no two people are exactly the same. You will not be judged or treated as anything other than a person who needs assistance with a problem.

People who come to see me are clients, not patients. Patients signifies there is something wrong with a person, I don't believe that. Clients who come to me are NOT told what they have to do or change, but can be given advice on how they can work through their issues, and cope better.

I have access to hundreds of Information sheets, Fact sheets, work sheets, all professionally designed by various clinical organisations to assist client in the comfort of their own home and at their own pace.

There is no magic wand to aid clients, except the determination of the clients to improve their lives. Clients get out of counselling what they feel suits their needs.

"After years of struggling with personal issues, I finally plucked up the courage to seek help. Working with Colin was comfortable and not as daunting as I feared. i was totally at ease after the first session, and was surprised how easily and openly I talked. I found Colin very attentive to me, my issues, and my situation, and listened very carefully to what I was saying. While I admit I still have someway to go, the strategies I have developed are certainly helping me cope better."

“I kept putting this off, as I was worried about what would happen, but I now realise there is nothing to be worried about”.

A common misconception about counselling.
